June 2021 Owl Crate Unboxing

I would like to preface this post with a bit of a warning. I wrote these posts before Owl Crate announced that they would be selling Harry Potter themed merchandise in their store again. I am not sure if everyone is aware of the comments the author of that series, J.K. Rowling, has made regarding trans people but I would like to say that I do not have the same views as her.

With that being said, I canceled my membership with Owl Crate. Though it is their prerogative to sell whatever they choose in their store, I have will not give my money to a company who willing endorses the hate Rowling spreads. This is especially contradictory of them given their post last year condemning Rowling’s view and willingly pulling all Harry Potter items from their shop. I will link their Instagram post with their statement regarding the merch and articles about J.K. Rowling.

My posts for June and July are done and will still be going up. I have yet to decide if I am posting the August box or not.

Trans women are women and trans men are men.

Hello everyone!

It’s time for another Owl Crate unboxing. Because of Covid there was a bit of a delay with this box, which also caused the July box to also be delayed. I think the box was worth the wait.

Let's get into it!

The first item this month is from Terrasen Lunch Tote! The theme is Throne of Glass, and the art is designed by Janine Lecour. I love green and the stag design. Lunch bags are always useful or a great item to donate if you have too many.

This month’s box includes a Strange the Dreamer themed foil print by kimcarlika_art. I haven’t heard of Strange the Dreamer, but the art is beautiful. I don’t know how I’m going to display it yet. I don’t want to pin it and poke holes. I think it’ll look great on my shelves.

The next item this month is designed by Pineapple Sundays! It’s a Starless Sea themed enamel bottle opener. Starless Sea is another book on my tbr/shelf. While I haven’t read it yet, I think this bottle opener is super cute. It’s a bit heavy but there are magnets to stick it on your fridge, or wherever else you choose. I really like when boxes include useful items like lunch bags or bottle openers. Its something that is both bookish but a good thing to have.

One of the items this month is an insulated water bottle designed by Macarena Chomik with a quote from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I love this water bottle. The design is so cute, and the colors are so nice. I really like that the box came with a lunch bag and water bottle so you could both for work or school.

The next item this month is a Fable themed decision coin by Iron and Ink Designs. I haven’t read Fable yet, it perpetually sits on my shelf and tbr. I do think that this coin is super cool. I know that I’m an indecisive person, so maybe a decision coin will help me make choices faster. It is a bit heavy but I like that it comes with its own pouch!

This month’s pin is designed by Icey Designs themed to Sisters of the Snake. I love the designs Icey Designs comes up with. They are always so gorgeous. I am running out of room on my pin pendant with all these gorgeous pins from my book boxes and book preorders!

This month’s book is Sisters of the Snake by Sarena and Sasha Nanua. This edition has an exclusive cover and foil art, is signed by the author, and has a reversible dust jacket designed by Pauliina Hannuniemi.

I’ll add the insert below:

Princess Rani has heard the whispers: Snake Princess, they call her. A girl with fangs for teeth. Her people fear her. Yet her father doesn’t believe her capable of ruling.

Ria is the quickest thief this side of the Var River – that’s why she’s still alive. But when she’s conscripted into a looming war, she knows she has to be quicker than ever before to elude the royal army’s grasp.

These two lives collide, turning everything upside down…because Ria and Rani, orphan and princess, are unmistakably identical.

A deal is struck- both can get what they want if they switch places for less than one moon’s time. But danger lurks in both worlds, and the two are thrust into a race to unravel a mysterious prophecy and locate a long-lost mythical object.

To save their home, thief and royal must work together – or watch it all fall into ruin.

I am really looking forward to this book. The dual cover is gorgeous, and the book sounds so good. I love fairytale retellings. Some authors are really fantastic at making those kinds of stories their own.

This month had a bunch of cool useful items! I loved that you got a little lunch set and a beautiful book. Next month’s theme is Potions and Poisons. I can’t wait to see all the cool items.

Until next time!
